Protective Effect of Vitamin D Supplementation on COVID-19-Related Intensive Care Hospitalization and Mortality: Definitive Evidence from Meta-Analysis and Trial Sequential Analysis (Argano)

by Paul Alexander

current evidence supports the benefits of vitamin D interventions in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 due to the protective effect provided by vitamin D against ICU admission and mortality.

Dr. Ramin Oskoui, cardiologist out of Washington DC (FOXHALL), shared this emerging study with me for debate and I decided it is of enough quality to re-share. Another piece to the puzzle or should we say, an already finished puzzle on the positive and protective effect of vitamin D (D3), and so, just adding extra pieces.

‘Five RCTs were found to be suitable for our analysis. We performed meta-analyses and then TSAs. Vitamin D administration results in a decreased risk of death and ICU admission (standardized mean difference (95% CI): 0.49 (0.34–0.72) and 0.28 (0.20–0.39), respectively).’
